W Fm bias

Variety is to be recommended, but not at the expense of fairness. Racing at Warwick Farm is quite different owing to its long chute start, sharp home bend and short straight, and this difference is a virtue in an increasingly bland racing environment. Alas, Warwick Farm’s racing surface and facilities are neglected by the ATC and we were presented on Saturday with a high quality card on an inferior track. It is ominous when the course commentator, as early as the second race, reports riders seeking better ground out wide on the course. Every winner came from off the pace, and finished down the middle or wider. Yet, rainfall for the month of February had been less than half the median, and minimal in the week prior. Punters loathe betting on fickle tracks and they’ve been shown poor form in this instance.
