Newmarket Musings

*the epic clash of the heavyweight sprinters in our premier sprint, the Newmarket, was perhaps an instance of highly touted rivals being overly focussed on their own positions, allowing Moreira to slip away unguarded on Brazen Bay. Remember the infamous AJC Oaks of 2007 when Danny Beasley on Tuesday Joy and Darren Beadman on Banc De Fortune (hardly a household name, but favourite on this occasion) seemed intent on staying with each other at the back of field, whilst the unfancied Rena's Lady stole a march and victory. *the Coolmore on Saturday was a prime sufferer of this years' carnival concertina. We were used to a variety of formlines, interstate and overseas combatants. Whilst saturday's renewal was a keen contest it lacked the diversity of the past owing to the current Melbourne/Sydney/Adelaide/NZ overlap.
