The Nightcap

Less than 20% of the 72 races conducted so far at Newcastle's inner circuit "Beaumont" have been with the rail in the true position. Such a small sample makes a forecast of the track pattern problematic, but there are similarities between today's track and that used for the Boxing Day meeting, allbeit showers marred that particular day. On that occasion, 5 of the 7 winners raced on the rail, including 2 from off the pace in very slowly run heats.

The much maligned I'm Not Sure has left the Snowden yard and steps out for his new trainer Rod Northam in the nightcap at 10 to 6 this evening. Freshened up and back in distance after contesting a hot early speed over a mile in town last start, he returns to the scene of his very plain maiden win when resuming at the end of November last. In an event plagued with fitness queries and out of form contestants, I fancy I'm Not Sure to have last look at his main danger Angel Miss.
